Elected in 1921, she won Elderbrook its public library and its first paved road.
Clara Weatherby ran for Elderbrook council the first year women could, in 1921, and won by eleven votes. She served nineteen terms. The library on Queen Street, the paved road to the station and the town's first public health nurse all came from motions she moved, often several times before they passed.
Her epitaph was chosen by her nephew, who said it was the only fair summary of her career.
