The Corrigan Family

A single stone for a family lost to the 1918 influenza in five weeks.

Frederick Corrigan worked at the Thorne mill and Lillian Corrigan took in sewing. Between October 19 and November 23, 1918, influenza killed Frederick, Lillian and three of their four children. The youngest, Rose, then two, survived and was raised by an aunt in Guelph.

Elderbrook lost 37 people that autumn. The Corrigan stone, paid for by the mill workers, became the town's memorial to all of them. Rose Corrigan Dunn came back to visit every year until her death in 1999, and is buried at its foot.
