Bobolinks are nesting in the Natural Meadow
A threatened grassland bird has chosen our green burial meadow. We are adjusting mowing to protect them.
For the second year running, bobolinks are nesting in the Natural Meadow. The species is listed as threatened in Ontario, mostly because of hayfields being cut during nesting season.
We are delaying the meadow's annual mow until mid-August and keeping a buffer around known nests. Natural burials continue as normal; graves are dug by hand and our staff mark a path in advance.
